1. Back up what matters
Use the manufacturer's cloud backup, a trusted computer, or another verified method. Confirm that the backup completed and that recent photos, authenticator migrations, messages, and important app data are included. A repair should not erase data unless disclosed, but storage, board, liquid, and software failures can make data unavailable without warning.
2. Document the phone
Photograph the front, back, corners, camera area, ports, and existing damage. Record the exact model, color, storage capacity, serial number, and IMEI from account records or settings when available. Keep those records at home.
3. Prepare privacy settings
Remove payment cards or disable contactless payment. Use repair or maintenance mode when the phone supports it. Sign out of especially sensitive applications when practical, but do not reset a device when the problem involves data recovery or when FixLabs asks you to preserve its current state.
Do not put account passwords or a passcode in the box. If unlocked testing becomes necessary, FixLabs explains what function needs testing and uses the approved repair record to coordinate access.
4. Remove unrelated items
- Remove the SIM card unless the reported problem requires cellular testing and FixLabs specifically requests it.
- Remove cases, wallets, straps, screen protectors that are already separating, and unrelated accessories.
- Do not include chargers, earbuds, or cables unless they are suspected in the failure.
- Keep memory cards unless they are part of the service request.
5. Check the battery condition
A phone that is swollen, smoking, leaking, punctured, unusually hot, or actively damaged may require special carrier handling and can be unsafe to package. Stop charging it and contact FixLabs before shipment.
Power the phone down before packing. Do not ship it while connected to a power bank or charger. Follow the selected carrier's current rules for equipment containing lithium-ion batteries.
6. Pack against movement and impact
- Place the powered-off phone in a clean protective bag.
- Wrap it in multiple layers of bubble wrap or comparable cushioning.
- Use a sturdy box, not a thin envelope.
- Protect every side, corner, camera bump, and screen.
- Fill empty space so the wrapped phone cannot move.
- Place the repair number inside without including passwords.
7. Keep the shipment record
Photograph the final packed layers, shipping label, and sealed box. Keep the receipt and tracking number. Use insurance and signature options appropriate for the device value and carrier terms.
During limited intake, do not ship a device until FixLabs has accepted the request and provided the correct mail-in instructions. An email conversation alone is not a substitute for an approved repair record.
